Made
Isaiah 64:8 says “Yet, O Lord, You are our Father. We are the clay, You are the potter; we are all the work of Your hand.” Wait a second, you mean me? Messed up, screwed up, jacked up, foot-in-mouth, bad attitude, sinful, prideful ME? I’m the work of His hands? How is that even possible?
I used to think that everyone else had it all together, and that I was the only one who was failing (over and over again). So, when I read scriptures like this, my first thought was, “Sure, that applies for this guy or that girl, but clearly I’ve disqualified myself from that.” - Really?
The Truth is that, we live in a fallen world. Sin is constantly crouching at our door waiting to devour us, and if we are unguarded, it will snatch us. Jesus knows this, and saw that we didn’t stand a chance against sin unless He intervened. That’s why He took on the form of a human, lived on Earth, and took on sin first-hand.
What we have to understand is that, we are not sinners saved by grace...we WERE, but now, under the blood of Jesus and His salvation, we are SAINTS. All of our sin is nailed to the cross, and we get to participate along side Christ in His mission field. So, when He says that He has made us and formed us, we can boldly accept that truth, and walk in that manner.
Psalm 139:14 says “I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful.” He made us in His image; the world and the sin in it corrupted that; Jesus redeemed it; and we are are (everyday) being transformed back into His likeness (2 Cor. 3:18). We are Made, and are being made like Him everyday.
He is the potter, and we are the clay. Make us Lord!
