Something of Substance
DAILY REMINDER #2 - "Faith is a Tangible Substance"
Hebrews 11:1 says, "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen."
Do you remember when you were a little kid, like 7 or 8, and you would play outside in your front yard with your friends/siblings, and hearing the ice cream truck go by? That feeling of excitement and anticipation was overwhelming because you knew that the possibility of getting an icy refreshment was near. You would run into the house screaming at the top of your lungs "MMMMMOOOOOOMMMMM!!! Can I get an ice cream!!!" You would dash all over the house until you finally found her. If you were smooth enough to convince her of just how badly you needed that treat, she would hand you some money. Do you remember that feeling? Or at least one similar to it?
Now, recall the walk from your mom's coin purse to the ice cream truck. If you'll remember, you didn't actually possess the ice cream yet, but you knew it was as good as yours. When you got it and how you got it was all just a matter of logistics, because you knew it was yours. Faith is very similar to that. Many times, God will speak something to us in the form of a promise. There are MANY promises that He gives us in scripture. He is not a man that He should lie, so His promises are money in the bank! But again, when and how we get it is a matter of logistics, and having the currency (faith) to redeem that promise.
When we are really walking in faith (see blog from 8/31/09), we have a TANGIBLE substance that assures us that we have what we cannot see. If God has promised you something, and it is from God, do your due diligence to allow your faith to grow. We have to move beyond hope (not that hope is bad, it just doesn't produce) and enter into faith. When you tangibly have faith, you will know that the promise is yours, no matter how long you have to wait for it.
