The Choice Filter

DAILY REMINDER #4 - "My faith has practical value"

2 Corinthians 5:7 says, "For we walk by faith, and not by sight...

How do you make your major life decisions?

  • What college to attend?
  • What major to focus on?
  • Who to date?
We make decisions all of the time.  Everyday a choice is being made, and our lives are the sum total of every decision we've made.  But, what method do we use in making these decisions?  Is it one that is based on faith?  One that is bathed in prayer, sought out in Godly counsel and meditation on the word?  Or, is it a method that we make based on logic, the facts, and what makes the most "sense" to us?  One that is based on sight?

Paul instructs us to choose the former, to walk by faith.  But, this is not a practice that we need to engage in with major decision alone, but rather the small decisions as well.  Choices such as:

  • When your parents irritate you: How do you respond?
  • Or when your roommate won't clean their side of the room.  How do you handle that?
  • Or a homeless man approaches you, and asks for help?
Do we live by faith on these "little" decisions?  Ask yourself what you base your decisions on.  If you lean more towards logic and common sense, understand that God wants to teach us something with these little choices.  If we can learn to walk by faith in the smaller things, we will certainly walk by faith with the bigger ones.

Let's choose today to operate by faith!
